A cliff hanger of a game as Hemsworth left it until the last 30 seconds of the match to score the one and only goal, and what a cracker it was, right into the top corner from Jodie out on the right wing. The pitch was not ideal for the Hemsworth girls as it was muddy and slippery to say the least, but that combined with its small size made it unfavourable to our style of play.
The Kirkburton keeper was confident and dominated the small nets and goal area making it difficult to put the ball past her. Hemsworth must have had 30 shots throughout the match all straight to the keeper.Sid told the girls at half time how to overcome this obstacle but the girls did not respond until finally Jodie did the deed.
The defence of Linz, Chaz, Jodie and Becky was strong which pleased Nichaela who was a little nervous in her debut game as goalkeeper, but never the less responded well on the few occasions that the home team shot at goal. Becky, Georgi and Jodie all played outstanding today reading the game, making themselves available and passing the ball forward, but all the girls had their moments of glory.
Virtually every player stepped up to have at least 1 shot at the goal in pure frustration of not being able to beat Kirkburtons excellent keeper.
