A Memorial tournament for Chris 'Tig' Askham was held last weekend (16/6/09), it consisted of a 4 team tournament, a Women’s Game and an Over 35s Game.
The day started with the Women’s game between Ashton’s WAG’s and the Hemsworth Miners Welfare Ladies. All the Spectators were entertained with some very good football and in true WAG style, a display of colourful fashion accessories (tu tu’s) and of course plenty of back chat and rule breaking!!
The Men’s Tournament was well represented by our local teams, and was won by HMW.
The over 35's teams consisted of ex players, refs, coaches and managers of which all managed to come through without injuries!!!
The fundraising went on until very late with live music and a few bevvies!
The day was extremely well supported by the local community, and a massive thankyou goes out to everyone who attended and contributed to this event.
