Rothwell 4 HMW U14's 0

The disappointed Hemsworth girls suffered their first loss since November and to a team that they had won 4-1 in their last meeting.

Rothwell played Hemsworth off the pitch today and were better in every way therefore deserved the victory.

Looking at the girls faces at the final whistle we knew that being met with a dressing down was not the right tactic, as every player knew already that they had not played their best game.

So lets focus on the positives....

The second half was definetly a lot better having taken on board Sids advice of playing out to the wings and using the field a lot more. Only 1 goal was conceded which showed a massive improvement on the first half. (Sid is the manager, let him manage you, or he might as well stay in bed on a weekend!!).

Becky's confidence grew allowing her to push forward supporting the front players with some great through balls.
Tiff and Chloe were the ones that responded to Sids request of heading the high balls!!
Jodie did a first class job of taking the main defender out of play.
New Goalie Nichaela made some lovely saves and kicked some fabulous long balls out down the field. Chazzie's slide tackles were in fine form today and Georgi (new boots) had yet another strong game. Chels and Chloe made some super runs down the wings to put in some good crosses.
Linzi stayed focused and ready for action in the back, while Katie stayed in good position out on the wing as directed by Sid. Ebony, Nicky, Amy and Kelly were all really unlucky not to have got their names on the score sheet.

So you see girls not all was bad but remember no match is lost by one or two individuals, the whole TEAM is responsible for losses as well as victories!!
So back to the drawing board (training to you), where you can put todays game behind you and focus on the remaining games, Shield semi final and the summer tournaments that you all look forward to.

Kirkburton 0 HMW U14's 1

A cliff hanger of a game as Hemsworth left it until the last 30 seconds of the match to score the one and only goal, and what a cracker it was, right into the top corner from Jodie out on the right wing.
The pitch was not ideal for the Hemsworth girls as it was muddy and slippery to say the least, but that combined with its small size made it unfavourable to our style of play.

The Kirkburton keeper was confident and dominated the small nets and goal area making it difficult to put the ball past her. Hemsworth must have had 30 shots throughout the match all straight to the keeper.
Sid told the girls at half time how to overcome this obstacle but the girls did not respond until finally Jodie did the deed.

The defence of Linz, Chaz, Jodie and Becky was strong which pleased Nichaela who was a little nervous in her debut game as goalkeeper, but never the less responded well on the few occasions that the home team shot at goal. Becky, Georgi and Jodie all played outstanding today reading the game, making themselves available and passing the ball forward, but all the girls had their moments of glory.

Virtually every player stepped up to have at least 1 shot at the goal in pure frustration of not being able to beat Kirkburtons excellent keeper.

Wortley FC 2 HMW U15's 4

The U15's were away this weekend against Wortley FC.

The girls started well in very windy conditions. After 15 minutes Hemsworth went one in front with some good football leading to Nicky scoring.
Hemsworth created a few chances with Briony coming close on a couple of occasions putting in a very good performance throughout.
Wortley created a few chances of their own but never really threatened a goal.

The second half saw Hemsworth slowing down in response to the sleet and wind! Which let Wortley in with their first goal.

Hemsworth were soon back on top with some good inter play from Brogan and Nicky which led to Lucy scoring her first of three.

Hemsworth kept the pressure up with Nicky and Jade prominent on the wings. The third goal was created with some good play from Briony who ended up on the floor but still able to make a telling pass to Lucy. Wortley broke clear to score their second of the match.

Hemsworth dug deep for the last ten minutes with some good defending from Giggs, Paige, Jess and Samantha Dyson.

Lucy finished her hat trick with a good individual goal.Well done girls and still on course for clinching the league, providing we continue to put in performances like this! We can do it!

Player of the match, Brogan Corcoran.

Shield Quarter Finals- U14's & U15's

U14's St Joseph's 1 HMW 6

Today the girls were all fired up and out to improve on their disappointing performance of the week before. Even though the team had won, that X-factor was not there, probably due to under-estimating their opponents ability.

Today this was not the case Hemsworth and St Joseph's have had many a battle on the field and both sides are physical and capable of good football.
The fact that our regular goalie was absent proved to be no problem as both Kelly and Georgi rose to the challenge and made some good saves during each half.

Hemsworth settled well into the game threatening St Joseph's time after time, the first goal coming from Tiff who followed up a low strike from Amy which the keeper managed to block in the first instance.
Nicky put her heart and soul into the game and was rewarded with a fabulous long shot from outside the box to take the away team into a 2-0 lead at half time.

A great second half display with 4 more goals being added to the score sheet and some good passes being strung together from all the girls.
A determined Amy recieved the ball at the half way line and ran the ball all the way down the pitch into the net, passing 2 defenders on the way. St Joseph's responded quickly with a fumbled goal, raising the tempo of the game again.
Kelly scored 2 goals, both from corners, one deflecting in off a home player. Chazzie also got on the score sheet as she recieved a short ball from a corner to strike low and hard into the corner of the net.

Well done on a fine, gutsy performance from every team member!!
Shield Semi-Finals next!!

U15's - Tingley 2 HMW 1

The girls were determined to play their best and try and get to the semi final of the shield. They started the game with skill, passion and determination. Every player was putting in 110% and things were looking very positive. Tingley seemed quite shocked at how Hemsworth were dominating the game and quickly began bringing on substitutes and reorganising.

Lucy Kenney scored a cracking goal in the first half to put us in the lead. The girls continuing their domination and excellent football into the second half. Hemsworth continued their pursuit with defence excelling and every team member working to their full potential. It was a pleasure to watch, the only negative being the fact that during the second half the referee went from being a fair ref to being very biased. It seemed that he blew for hand balls against Hemsworth every few minutes! Even giving Tingley a penalty. Fortunately the penalty was missed and we could continue! We were feeling very hopeful when another 'hand ball' decision led to Tingley equalising 5 minutes before the final whistle.

The fantastic performance continued into extra time with Tingley managing to break through and score a second goal 4 minutes before the end. The result may have been a loss, however, the girls played the best match of their lives and never gave up!

They should be very proud of themselves and their superb effort! The best result they had against Tingley last season was a loss of 9-1 and they showed this weekend just how much they have grown and developed. Well done girls you should be very proud! I know I am! -Nige
