A very cold and windy day faced the girls as they lined up for the kick off, Pontefract playing with the strong wind put Hemsworth under pressure right from the kick off but the defenders Nat, Becky and Chazzie ,were all switched on today and keeper Nicheala quick off her line to snuff out the attacks.
Hemsworth started to get into the game and some good passing down the right lead to Amy putting Tiff through on goal but the Pontefract keeper managed to keep the ball out of the net. Lindsey playing in midfield fed the ball out left for Chels to race goalwards before unleashing a shot that just skimmed past the post.
Pontefract pressured again but some quick passing from the back via Chels, Amy, Lindsey and finally to Tiff managed to force Hemsworths first corner after about 25 minutes. Chazzies well taken corner was met by Jodie's header for a super goal. Pontefract came straight back into the game with a break right down the centre that Nicheala pushed away from the nets but another Pontefract player was first on the ball and stroked the ball into the net for the equaliser.
Minutres later Chazzie took a free kick that just sailed past the far post. Amy and Tiff combined again down the right with both of them just failing to find the net. Playing with the wind meant that a lot of balls missed out midfield but Nat and Becky stayed calm and worked hard in defence chasing down the ball and keeping the Pontefract attackers away from the goals.
At the halftime whistle with the score still at 1 - 1 Sid took the girls to one side to give them some encouragement after having to work very hard against the wind.
Hemsworth started brightly in the second half with Amy hitting the post within minutes of the kick off. Another well taken free kick found Amy at the edge of the box whose shot just went wide of the posts.
The wind proved to be a telling factor as a few minutes later a long shot by Chazzie managed to bobble in front of the keeper and slid through her legs and into the back of the net to give Hemsorth the lead. This goal took of a lot of the pressure and the girls really started playing.
A long,high clearance from Nicheala was well controlled by Chazzie at the halfway line before she put Amy through to bring the score to 3 - 1. Minutes later Jodie received the ball at the edge of the box, shooting quickly goalwards only to see it hit the post and rebounding to the edge of the box where Brogan hit it well but it went just over the bar.
Another run from Tiff and Briony down the right and then a quick pass to an unmarked Amy meant that she had time to place the ball into the far corner of the goals before the Pontefract defence could react.
Hemsworth pressured more and more and were rewarded with a good shot from George at the edge of the box that sailed over the keepers head to take the score to 5 - 1.
In the final minutes Hemsworth were awarded a free kick that Chazzie smashed against the crossbar but Pontefract managed to clear before it could be followed up.
