Shield Quater Final- HMW 2 - Garforth Villa 4 (Ext time)

An unfortunate loss today for the home team, giving the game to Garforth in the last 8 minutes of extra time.
Having not played for over a month the girls played very well considering. Shannon in her debut game linked well with Mel: Linzi and Chelsea were both on form today out running the opposition each time.

The first half saw exciting end to end play with Chaz, Jodie and Tiff for Hemsworth being unlucky not to have scored.
It was Becky who opened the scoring, brilliantly reading the ball from Chazzie's corner to sneak it past the keeper. Hemsworth kept up the pressure with Jodie and Chelsea narrowly missing the target.

Garforth evened the score with a good goal, for Hemsworth to come back again with Chazzie's perfect curling corner. Georgi had a brilliant game in mid and had a good attempt at the goal having recieved the ball from Chazzie.
Garforth got lucky from a corner to even the score again.
A determined Amy ran the ball from the kick off all the way into the box to narrowly miss, and shortly after Jodie and Mel had their shots go over the top bar.

With lady luck not being on the hometeams side, the 2-2 result meant extra time had to be played.
The first half saw no goals, then the over eager defence were unfortunate to give Garforth 2 deflected goals in the final 8 minutes of the game.

The score does not reflect the huge amount of effort the girls put in, as each player contributed 100% and demonstrated some good football today!

Rothwell 10 HMW 1

The horrible wet and windy weather put a dampener on todays game.

Rothwell dominated the first half with goal after goal with Hemsworth's Amy, Chelsea and Jodie having their attempt on Rothwells goal narrowly miss.

Mid-field and defence worked hard, but the well rehearsed Rothwell team proved to be stronger.
The second half was much more positive with the away team only conceding 2 goals and managing to claw one back: Jodie's magnificent free kick from the left wing hurled past 5 defenders and the keeper to curl into the top right hand corner of the net!

This helped the teams confidence and they started to dominate by pressing forward and winning several corners. Amy delivered the ball accurately in front of the goal mouth, which resulted in a Hemsworth, Rothwell battle to try and win the ball as it was knocked around in the box between a sea of frenzied feet. Hemsworth were unlucky not to score again.

Hemsworth's defence tightened in the second half as they responded to Rothwells tactics, Linzi and Becky took charge and snuffed out the main threats and Chantelle kept her head up and made some excellent saves.

Well done girls, a terrible day weather wise, a poor first half but a really brilliant second half!!

HMW 5 Pontefract 1

A very cold and windy day faced the girls as they lined up for the kick off, Pontefract playing with the strong wind put Hemsworth under pressure right from the kick off but the defenders Nat, Becky and Chazzie ,were all switched on today and keeper Nicheala quick off her line to snuff out the attacks.

Hemsworth started to get into the game and some good passing down the right lead to Amy putting Tiff through on goal but the Pontefract keeper managed to keep the ball out of the net. Lindsey playing in midfield fed the ball out left for Chels to race goalwards before unleashing a shot that just skimmed past the post.

Pontefract pressured again but some quick passing from the back via Chels, Amy, Lindsey and finally to Tiff managed to force Hemsworths first corner after about 25 minutes. Chazzies well taken corner was met by Jodie's header for a super goal. Pontefract came straight back into the game with a break right down the centre that Nicheala pushed away from the nets but another Pontefract player was first on the ball and stroked the ball into the net for the equaliser.

Minutres later Chazzie took a free kick that just sailed past the far post. Amy and Tiff combined again down the right with both of them just failing to find the net. Playing with the wind meant that a lot of balls missed out midfield but Nat and Becky stayed calm and worked hard in defence chasing down the ball and keeping the Pontefract attackers away from the goals.

At the halftime whistle with the score still at 1 - 1 Sid took the girls to one side to give them some encouragement after having to work very hard against the wind.

Hemsworth started brightly in the second half with Amy hitting the post within minutes of the kick off. Another well taken free kick found Amy at the edge of the box whose shot just went wide of the posts.

The wind proved to be a telling factor as a few minutes later a long shot by Chazzie managed to bobble in front of the keeper and slid through her legs and into the back of the net to give Hemsorth the lead. This goal took of a lot of the pressure and the girls really started playing.

A long,high clearance from Nicheala was well controlled by Chazzie at the halfway line before she put Amy through to bring the score to 3 - 1. Minutes later Jodie received the ball at the edge of the box, shooting quickly goalwards only to see it hit the post and rebounding to the edge of the box where Brogan hit it well but it went just over the bar.

Another run from Tiff and Briony down the right and then a quick pass to an unmarked Amy meant that she had time to place the ball into the far corner of the goals before the Pontefract defence could react.

Hemsworth pressured more and more and were rewarded with a good shot from George at the edge of the box that sailed over the keepers head to take the score to 5 - 1.

In the final minutes Hemsworth were awarded a free kick that Chazzie smashed against the crossbar but Pontefract managed to clear before it could be followed up.

Thornes 1 HMW 2

We arrived at Thornes with a full healthy squad this week and relieved that play would be allowed to go ahead, in the foggy, dismal conditions.

Hemsworth attacked from the word go and remained positive when Thornes had a lucky break.
Livvy was unlucky not to equalise as she recieved a ball infront of the net from Amy.
Hemsworth were persistent until a "team effort" goal from Chazzies fab corner gave them the deserved equalizer. Becky, Tiff and Livvy all were positioned in front of the net and all eagerily went for the ball!

The fog remained for the duration of the match but did not dampen the girls spirits , they stood strong to the physical play and patiently worked the ball.

Jodie had a great second half with a near miss, a free kick just skimming the top post, and a disallowed goal. Finally she was rewarded with the winning goal which was produced from a super ball sent by Mel at the back, right to Jodies feet for her to take on the goalie on a one on one, to produce the winning goal.

Chantelle and Nicheala's goal keeping skills proved strong today as did all the girls determination.

HMW 5 Garforth Villa 1

What a difference a week makes - with 12 fit players this week Hemsworth were able to compete with a very good Garforth team. Both teams played some very good attacking football and were soon putting pressure on each others goals, it was a great game to watch with both teams going close but both unable to break the deadlock. After some 20 minutes a Garforth attacker intercepted a ball at the edge of the box before racing forwards and chipping the ball into the top corner of the net which Chantelle could do nothing about. The back four of Brogan, Linzi, Chazzie and Becky had plenty of work to do for large periods of the first half play, but everyone of them did their job very well, keeping the Garforth attackers at bay. Chantelle is growing in confidence and power with every game, and made some good saves today. Being solid at the back meant that Hemsworth could focus and press forwards for the equaliser but were unable to beat the confident Garforth keeper and the score remained at 0 - 1 as the half time whistle blew. The second half began with Hemsworth attacking straight from the kick off with Jodie powering a shot from the centre circle to go over the keepers head and into the back of the net. Garforth tried hard to dominate the midfield and after a good through ball their attacker broke quickly down the right wing and straight into a one on one with Chantelle, but Chantelle got a strong pair of hands to the ball pushing it around her near post preventing what had looked to be a certain goal. A corner ball from Chaz rebounded out of the box for Amy to scramble the ball past the packed defence and into the Garforth nets to give Hemsworth a deserved lead. Both teams tried very hard as play went from end to end in search of the next goal, Hemsworth having some good shots on goal and Garforth unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty following a collision in the penalty box. Minutes later the ball was back in the Garforth net following another determined run from Amy and her quickly taken shot being deflected into the Garforth nets to extend the lead. Hemsworths forwards and mid fielders then started to put real pressure on the Garforth goals with several shots whistling just over the cross bar. All the pressure began to tell as following another of Chazzies well taken corners, Jodie flicked the ball goalwards to see lanky George appear in front of the keeper and head the ball into the net for the fourth. As the final whistle approached Tiff scored the fifth after some determined battling for the ball in the box, before her shot went into the far corner of the net for a super goal. Great team work and patience paid off today, with everyone giving 100% effort

Crossley 8 HMW 1

Not a lot to say today apart from well done to Livvy on her first goal of the season and oh the new kit looked good!!!!!!!

Hemsworth struggled to raise a fit team today which resulted in playing with 9 and 10 players for some of the match. The Crossley girls were allowed to play their game with Hemsworth unable to respond.
Mel before having to retire, was having her work cut out at the back but worked hard with Nat to try and snuff out the well rehearsed right wingers.
Charlotte and Amy had a few good shots unluckily miss the target, and Jodie fired 5 goals in the last 10 minutes at the Crossley goalie, but all were confidently saved each time.

The curse of Crossley- look a the sky!!

HMW 3 Bradford Park 3

An exciting game with end to end play right from the word go with Bradford having their first shot go wide. Chazzie responded minutes later by collecting a loose ball from the back and running it all the way down the right wing to single out Livvy unmarked who aimed at the near post only for the good Bradford keeper to save it.

In return Hemsworth's keeper Chantelle- foiled Bradford's shot with her foot. Defender Becky was unlucky as she powered a shot just outside the centre circle for the keeper to catch.
This is how the game panned out with good football being played by both teams, until a good combination from Chaz to George finding Tiff on the right, sent the ball high over the keepers head to put Hemsworth in the lead.
Bradford were unlucky with a shot hitting the crossbar and a corner being saved by Chantelle who bravely plunged herself into the pack to snatch up the ball.
Chelsea outran the Bradford defenders down the wing to send crosses in front of the net for Amy and Tiff, to be just out beaten by the Bradford keeper each time.

The half time whistle saw Hemswoth at the break with a 1-0 lead.

Livvy had a super second half with a shot closed down on the near post by the keeper, and set up a good ball for Chels to skim past the near post.
Brogan and George were solid in mid, feeding out accurate balls to Amy and the wingers, and were both unlucky not to have got their name on the score sheet today.

With speedy Linzi not being here today, Mel and Becky raised their game and held the fort very well, supported by the big booters Chaz and Nat.
Bradford broke the deadlock by scoring 3 consecutive goals leaving the home team trailing 1 goal to 3. Having no subs was now beginning to show, but all credit to the girls as they dug deep in the remaining 10 minutes of the game and pressured Bradford into making a mistake in the box to give an home goal.
Tactical changes saw Chaz being brought forward and into the ideal position to even the score in the last minute of the game with a super goal.

Cup Match - HMW 1 Batley Ladies 14

The score does not reflect the effort that the girls put in today, Hemsworth are still in a transitional stage with new players joining the team but becoming stronger each week.

Batley are a well rehearsed team and today gave praise to Hemsworth of being the only team to score against them and give their keeper a work out this season.
Hemsworth's new keeper Chantelle was switched on from the whistle where she had to make 4 good saves snuffing out Batley's early chances, but a mistake at the edge of the box gave Batley the opening goal.
Tiff, Bri and Liv combined well together and pressured the Batley keeper in the first half.

The second half saw Hemsworth create more chances with Tiff having a phenomenal game today and being really unlucky not having her 4 good shots converted into goals. Her first attempt came from her receiving the ball from the half way line and cleverly pushing it past 2 defenders to put in a good shot which the keeper couldn't hold, Tiff scooped up the rebounded ball to shoot again but her shot was frustratingly foiled again by being headed off the line by a defender.
Jodie worked the ball on the right to send in a cracking cross which Tiff failed to make contact with by a cats whisker.

The "Tiff show" continued as she sent 2 high lobs towards the goal within minutes of each other, one just passing the post and the other hitting the cross bar.
Mel put in an exceptional performance today and had a hand in the Hemsworth goal as she confidently fed the ball out to Tiff on the right wing who found Bri waiting in the box, for her to skilfully turn on the ball and hit it past the keeper.

In the latter stages Jodie again made herself prominent up front with a good shot that the keeper couldn't keep hold of, George quickly tried to follow up, but the keeper managed to dive on it just on the line.

A fabulous team effort by all the players today, Brogan in her debut game, fitted well in mid field connecting with George and Amy, also Linzi and Becky proved to be a challenge for the fast Batley Ladies.

Hemsworth will now compete in the Shield and Batley Ladies will go into the next round of the cup.

HMW 5 Tingley 2

A cool morning soon got hotter as Hemsworth, despite only having 10 players today, attacked straight from the kick off, The first few attacks fell down at the last minute with Tingley just managing to clear their lines and scramble the ball away.

Tingley made the extra man down the left count and this resulted in a scrambled goal to take the lead over Hemsworth.

New keeper Chantelle made some good saves as the Hemsworth goal came under more pressure but once again Hemsworth started to pressure with a header from Chels going wide after a great lob from Mel. Shortly after some great running down the wing Tiff struck a shot that went past the keeper and into the net to level the score. Amy and Chels kept up the pressure with several shots just going wide.

Tingley fought back but Chantelle stopped everything that came goalwards before her clearance to Chels set her on her way up the wing and into the Tingley half outpacing the Tingley defence before smashing the ball past the advancing keeper to give Hemsworth the lead.

As the pressure mounted on Tingley a through ball found Briony at the edge of the box who turned a defender before slotting the ball home for Hemsworth's third.

Tingley didn't give up and only minutes later Chantelle managed launch herself sideways to bravely scoop the ball away from the goals before she hit her wrist against the post.

Playing slightly downhill in the second half made it a little easier on the depleted squad but an injury to Mel brought the squad numbers down again. Shortly afterwards a great free kick from Chazzie that the Tingley keeper just managed to tip over the bar raised their confidence again and the tempo of the game went up yet another notch. Chazzie scored the 4th when she dribbled past 2 defenders before confidently striking the ball past the keeper.

Tingley pressed back and a ball across the box was met by one of their attackers and she slotted the ball into the Hemsworth net.

Tingley tried again and again to get up to the Hemsworth goals but the formidable defence managed to keep them at bay.

The final goal followed a super throw from George that Briony raced after and smashed into the bottom corner of the net. With only a few minutes to go this seemed to be the signal for an all out attack on Tingleys goal, and in the space of a few minutes almost all of the front line and midfield had shots on goal either flash past the posts or being saved by the keeper. (Tiff's strike onto the crossbar being the closest).

As the final whistle went both teams were congratulated for the efforts they had put into, what had turned out to be a great match for both sets spectator's with plenty to cheer about throughout the match.

HMW 0 Silsden 2

The first game of the season got off to a fair start today, with Hemsworth losing 2 goals to nil, but in all fairness they should have bagged this match today.

The first half saw some good football with all the right tactics in place amounting to nothing. A number of players had good shots at the goal but Silsden opened the scoring with a messy goal in the goalmouth.

The second half saw great opportunities open but the good Silsden keeper had the upperhand. Jodie, Charlotte and Briony were unlucky not to score.

Hemsworth, regardless of having no subs, worked hard, in particular Tiff, Jodie and George who gave 100%, running relentlessly in mid supporting both the strikers and the defenders.

Sid lubricated his vocal cords for his usual lengthy summary reflecting back on the years football and shared his funny stories on the trials and tribulations of the squad and supporters.

Each of the team received their award and then the individual awards were presented as follows..

Sid made special mentions to Adam Watham for his relentless time and commitment to our team and congratulated Charlotte Andrews on her achievement of being selected for the U16'S West Riding Reps squad.

The parents and players wanted to thank Sid and Tracey for their hard work and dedication of making the team the success that they are, by giving them the chance to win an all expenses paid romantic meal for 2 at a top class venue. Woooooo!
The challenge was a difficult one and to be honest a long shot, given their past record on navigation!

The challenge........
Follow the step by step instructions and guess the destination.

They got straight into the task and were doing well whilst still in Hemsworth, then Tracey, bless her, threw her arms in the air and said "she was lost" ( nothing new there, this happens every away match ) anyway Sid managed to claw it back announcing that he knew where they were, when the instructions mentioned a couple of pubs en route! The tension was building wondering if they would be able to finish the challenge and then with a little whisper from Nat's dad they announced Wentbridge House.

Crossley Jnrs 2 HMW 10

A triumphant win in the last game of the season for the Hemsworth girls, bagging them a respectful Joint 4th position in the U16's West Riding League.

Hemsworth were off from the whistle keeping the ball penned in the Crossley half, the small pitch meant that the girls were on top of each other and had to adjust the play to their advantage.
George opened the scoring using her height well for an easy header delivered from Chazzie's corner. A good skillful combination from Jodie, Amy and Tiff saw Tiff score the first of her hat trick of goals in the match.

Hemsworth dominated the first half with the midfield and defence being on top form, and the strikers taking chances, of which some, they won and some they lost.

Chaz took a free kick from past the half way line for the keeper to dive on and just manage to hold on to. Amy took advantage of the keepers kick being hampered by the strong winds to score the third goal of the first half. George produced one of her magnificent Delap throws right in front of the goal mouth for "show off Tiff" to back head it over the keeper for a sensational goal and then to come back again 2 minutes later for her hat trick.

(I don't know what mum Jackie put in Tiff's porridge this morning but the girl was buzzing!!)

Crossley was awarded a penalty which Rhea made a fab attempt at saving but was beat as it headed for the corner of the net.

The second half saw Chazzie run rings round the defenders for a hat trick, and Natalie, Chels and Jodie all have good shots saved by the good Crossley goalkeeper.

Livvy got her name on the score sheet today with a good goal, and Amy got the last goal of the game in the final minute as George headed (yes another header) the ball back to Amy to volley it past the keeper.

Its always good to end on a high, a great game today with an excellent display of football.

Wigton Moor 7 HMW 1

It was not a good day for Hemsworth today, they only just managed to get a team together and played against a tough Wigton team who had everything to gain as they fought to stay in second position in the league, having lost to Hemsworth the last time they met.

Hemsworth juggled positions having regular players missing, but that and playing into the strong winds saw the away team break at half time 5 goals down.

The second half flowed much better with George scoring with a super chip going over the keepers head, and minutes later she had another chance with a 25yd lob go just too wide.
Hemsworth did create more chances but not enough to have any impact.

Mel, George, Linz and Natalie were prominent today.

Hemsworth had a slow start tonight allowing Lepton in with 3 goals using the same tactic each time.
Once the home team responded and altered their game they stopped Lepton in their tracks.

The second half was definetly the strongest half for the home team, with Tiff, Amy, Chelsea, Chloe, Mel and Chazzie constantly pressuring the defence and keeper. Hemsworth were really unlucky not to have at least equalised with Amy and Chazzie having a shot each hit the cross bar.

Hemsworth's only goal tonight came from Chelsea who finished off a fabulous cross from Chloe.

HMW 2 Wigton Moor 1

Hemsworth were on fire today and gave Wigton Moor a good game.

Hemsworth pressured right from the whistle with Tiff laying on a good ball for Chazzie to blast from the edge of the box, just skimming past the goal post. The duo were unlucky with another combination, Chazzie placed a corner ball for Tiff to head but it marginally went over the bar. Third time lucky- Chazzie knocked on a ball for Amy who took it out to the right, drawing out the keeper, leaving the net wide open for her to expertly slot in the bottom left corner of the net.

Wigton clawed a goal back minutes before the half time whistle to add to the excitement of the game.

The second half was hard fought by the two teams with end to end play and every player giving 100%, until a combination from Chelsea finding Mel in midfield who headed the ball on for Amy to beat the defender and the goal keeper for another brilliant goal.

Wigton made it hard work for Hemsworth in the last 10 minutes of the game, but with Rhea's fantastic dives, Jodie, Linz and Becky's determination, they could not get through the formidable four.
A fantastic performance from all the girls proving difficult to single out one player this week.

Bradford Park Avenue 0 HMW 3

Hemsworth played some brilliant football today, despite several set backs of having no subs, no regular goal keeper and some players still nursing injuries.
Sid was forced to make tactical changes which paid dividends!

Chelsea scored twice in the first 10 minutes, the first from a chipped ball from Livvy for her to lob over the keepers head and the second came from Mel producing a brilliant header towards the keeper, who then dropped it at Chelsea's feet for her to put Hemsworth into a 0-2 lead over Bradford.

The third goal came as a result of a free kick awarded as Amy was bowled over, Chazzie stepped up to take the free kick for Hemsworth just outside the centre circle, and powered the ball into the top corner for Hemsworth to extend their lead 0-3.

The Hemsworth team were confident and it showed with the great string of passes being demonstrated starting from the defence forwards. The defence of Jodie, Linz, Nat and Becky were strong and unbeatable, playing strategical football as well as holding off Bradford's attackers. Chloe and Chaz gelled well together as did Livvy and Chels.

Chloe was unlucky not to have scored as she had a couple of long range shots just missing the target. Jodie and Amy also go on to the near miss list with 2 headers from Jodie narrowly missing the goal, and Amy having a couple skim past the post also.

A fab game today with all players putting in an exceptional performance, especially George volunteering to go in goals, she did a top job!

CUP MATCH - Batley Heat 9 HMW 0 + 1 try

Hemsworth played against their friends Batley today for the last time and gave last years League and Cup champions a good game.

The underdogs were all in good spirit, despite having no subs, and played some really excellent football, with Rhea in goals, saving and blocking some amazing shots.

A respectable score at half time of 4-0 reflected the team work which was being displayed.

The second half was tiring for the players having no subs, and devilment took over the Hemsworth girls in the last few minutes of the game, with Linzi kicking the ball out to George who then picked it up and ran towards the goal with Linzi powering ahead ready to receive the ball and place it for a try!!!!!!!

The look on some of the oppositions faces was a picture, but they took it in good spirit. George received her first ever yellow card (HER STREET CRED HAS JUST GONE UP).

Seriously- well done to the Batley girls and good luck in the Cup and future games.

Wakefield Jets 2 HMW 6

Hemsworth pressured well in the opening minutes with the first shot coming from an impressive combination of Chelsea running the ball down the wing, crossing it to Amy who flicked it on for George to take a shot, but her attempt went that bit too wide. Within minutes Amy had a chance but again the ball went wide. This was the bench mark set for the whole of the first half, Hemsworth playing some good football but not being able to finish off, the muddy area in front of the goal mouth hampering the ball.

Wakefield having the better half of the pitch, scored a good goal, and then a rebounded ball off an Hemsworth defender put them in the lead 2 goals to 0 at half time.

Hemsworth were not too worried at this point as they knew the condition of the pitch was much better in the second half, and they just needed to keep playing the ball and be patient.

The second half saw Hemsworth dominate right from the whistle with the midfield of Tiff, Chloe, Liv, George and Mel play some outstanding football leaving the defence very little to do. Becky, Linzi, Nat and Jodie did a sterling job of keeping the ball tight in the Wakefield half for the majority of the second half of the game.

Amy was the first to open the scoring with a confident goal, Chloe came up trumps from a corner ball and Jodie came from the back to practically walk the ball in the net for the third goal. Amy scored her second goal by rounding the defender to strike the ball low into the corner of the net. The next goal was beautifully executed with Becky at the back passing the ball down the line to Liv, who then laid it on for Tiff to run it all the way down the wing and deliver it right in front of the net for Amy to tap in, for her hat trick.

Chloe, George, Linzi and Liv all had their chances creating a barrage of shots at the Wakefield keeper: with the final goal of the day coming from Mel giving her, her first goal of the season, after receiving a super ball in front of the net from Chloe, after running all the way down the wing from the half way line.

Hemsworth looked promising in the opening 10 minutes of the match as they kept the ball pinned in the Lepton half with both Jodie and Amy taking shots at the goal.
Lepton then broke away and scored with a lucky goal which trickled over the line.

At half time and a score of 2-0, the away team were still very much in the game.

George, Liv and Tiff kept their heads up and ran their heart and soul out today with Liv having a cracking shot saved by the good Lepton keeper.

In the second half Jodie managed to draw the keeper out and put one past her to give the only goal for Hemsworth.

A frustrating game today with individuals working hard but not really making anything happen.

Rothwell 5 HMW 1

Hemsworth were a little slow to get into their stride today, making mistakes and giving Rothwell 2 goals from corners in the first half, and another just before the half time whistle.

The second half looked more promising with Hemsworth settling into the game and having a few attempts at goal but to no avail.
Hemsworth held the home team at 3 for the most of the second half but then Rothwell scored again from another corner, and the final goal came in the last 20 seconds of the match.

Rhea in goals, definitely saved the day with her numerous skillful saves, and Linzi in defence was fast and tough, tracking down the Rothwell strikers.

The only goal from the away team came from a brilliant cross from Chloe having won the battle of the ball, to Jodie who's shot was stopped by the keeper only to be given a second chance as the keeper dropped the ball.

Sid commented on Rhea, Linzi and Jodie's strong performance and the excellent team spirit displayed throughout the match. He was also pleased with how individuals adapted to different positions which on another day could have seen a different score!!!!

Its hard to know where to start as there were so many positives about today's game. Sid found it impossible to pick a player of the match as each and every one of the girls played good passing football and interacted well together.

Jodie had a storming first half bagging 4 super goals and Chazzie walked one into the net after the ball had been pin ponged around the box for a good few minutes, with every one trying to break down the packed defence.

The first half should have easily seen double figures in the terms of goals, with the team producing excellent crosses into the box, precise corner balls, and good passing combinations, but the good keeper and the packed goal mouth hindered more goals. Jodie, Linzi and Chazzie all were unlucky hitting the top bar from 25 yds out, Tiff, Livvy, Amy and Chels had shots skim past the corner goal post. Becky, Tiff and Jodie narrowly missed with their headers: the near miss list goes on and on.....

The Second half was as good as the first half with Chazzie and Jodie scoring another goal each, George came up trumps with her second goal in 2 weeks and Amy worked hard for the hat trick.

Mel, Linz and Becky were able to push up the field a bit more and make themselves more prominent and did so very well. Nat at the back had a fab, confident game and Rhea won the vote of the cleanest and best turned out player!!!!!!!

Windy Tingley!
The strong winds hampered play sending the ball in all directions, and it also took it's toll on the girls having to battle against it.

From the opening minutes Hemsworth were on the ball and had several shots at goal only to be stopped by the good Tingley keeper. Hemsworth kept the keeper on her toes with a barrage of shots until finally George found the net after an eager goal mouth scramble following Chazzies well taken corner. George minutes later just missed out on another goal as she positioned herself well in front of the net, to meet a cross from Chels on the left only to see it stopped by the keeper right on the line.

Becky, Liv and Chels gelled well together today, producing some good passing between them and finishing with Chels scoring seconds before the half time whistle.
Livvy scored her first goal of the season today, responding to the keepers punched clearance first, she scooped up the ball and hit it into the corner of the net.

Another winning combination came from Amy and Jodie with both girls having a hand in each others goals. Jodie flicking the ball on for Amy to run onto and managing to pass the ball into the net just before the Tingley keeper reached the ball. Amy returned the favour by winning the ball out on the right wing and crossing it perfectly for Jodie just inside the box to blast in the top corner of the net.

All the team played well adapting to the conditions of play with the defenders being phenomenal, snuffing out all threats and playing the ball out well into the midfield. Rhea showed guts with her fearless diving and handled the ball with confidence in difficult conditions.

Hemsworth lost to top of division Batley Heat, the only consulation was that the score line was an improvement on the last time they met in October. The story though was pretty much the same, Batley were given too much space to play and Hemsworth were forced into playing a defensive game with very little opportunity to score.

The first half saw Hemsworth go down to 4 quick goals, before settling into the game where they then managed to hold the Batley girls off for the remainder of the first half.

The second half resumed with Hemsworth battling hard, but when momentum was lost Batley took advantage.

Hemsworth's defenders, Linz, Jodie, Becky, Mel and Nat were prominent players today as was Rhea in goals, who made some fab diving saves!

Ilkley struggled to raise a full team today, but showing good sportsmanship they still showed up ready to play the game.

Hemsworth dominated the first half obviously, having a full squad, Jodie and Chloe were quick off the mark shooting at the Ilkley goal within the opening minutes catching Ilkley off guard.
Chelsea opened the scoring converting a cross from Amy. Jodie produced a brilliant header from Chazzie's corner for the second goal. Good team work from Chloe's cross to Amy who laid the ball on for Jodie in the box, saw Jodie bag her second goal of the match.
Ilkley's keeper had a tremendous game making some brilliant saves, to the frustration of the Hemsworth strikers! Chloe, Chazzie, Chels, Jodie, Tiff, and Amy all had many a shot foiled by the good keeper.

Jodie battled and managed to get her hat trick playing more up the field.
Livvvy shot from outside of the box, the ball ran past the goal mouth, for quick thinking Amy to scoop up and blast into the far corner for Hemsworth's fifth goal.

Hemsworth were confident that they had the game in the bag so they had a reshuffle and pulled players off not wanting to demoralise the Ilkley girls.

The defence of Becky, Mel and Linz protected "Birthday Girl Georgi" in the goals, as she only touched the ball once. "Birthday Girl Leah" volunteered to go in the goal for the second half and made a decent job of it.
Linz out of her usual position of defence, scored a good goal making it the last one of the match giving Hemsworth a 6-1 win and putting them through into the next round of the cup.

Sid and the spectators were impressed by the precise, calm, tactical passing football played today by the girls, especially in the first half- well done!

The teams start the game showing their respect with a minutes silience....

Today, watching Hemsworth was like watching 2 games on different TV channels. The match and play on ITV can be described as pure brilliance but on the other side it was shambolic.

The opening half saw Hemsworth at their best, dominating the game which resulted in
2 quick goals, the first coming in the opening minutes and set up beautifully by Tiff for Chelsea to round the keeper and knock the ball into the net.
The second goal came soon after from a fab cross delivered by Amy out on the right wing, again to Chelsea waiting infront of the goal.

Hemsworth were on fire at this point and Ilkley must have thought they were in for a pasting, but credit to them they picked up their game and made Hemsworth work hard for the remainder of the first half, and were given a bonus of an home goal from a miss headed ball infront of the net.

When it was good we saw good combinations from Jodie, Mel and Chloe just missing the target, Becky had her work cut out chasing the run away Ilkley winger, but did so and was successful in stoppping her in her tracks!

The score at half time was 1-2 and our manager was not happy, his team talk was as icy and cutting as the cold moors themselves!

Ilkley had everything to play for and came out determined again putting up a good resistance. Hemsworth did try and create chances; Amy recieved a through ball from Chazzie, but was beaten by the good Ilkley keeper, and the same story for Chazzie's free kick.

Jodie managed to break the keeper down when a good tactical move from Leah
(stepping over the ball) allowed Jodie room to produce a power shot leaving the keeper no chance of saving it.
The fire was re lit and Hemsworth were off again with Livvy being unlucky not to score as were Amy, Tiff and Chloe in a short space of time.

Rhea stepped up into her new role with her confidence growing in the second half as she made some brilliant saves, and proved to have nerves of steel as she dived on a ping ponged ball, regardless of the 5 pairs of legs around her!
Ilkley again never gave up and scored a brilliant lobbed goal which Rhea could do little about.

Jodie scored her second goal from a whopping 25yds out, and then in the last few seconds of the match the final goal of the day came from a brilliant 3 touch combination- from Rhea's goal kick to Tiff who headed it on for Amy to finish it off with a super top corner goal.

Hemsworth were lured into Batley's Lair on this dark, dismal Halloween day for a beating!!

The first half was as gruesome as the day itself with The Batley Wizards casting 7 winning spells!

The second half was much better, especially after scary Witch Jodie roared out "I'M NOT GOING HOME WITHOUT A GOOOOAL"......
The witches trembled with trepidation and at last started to create some chances.

Witches Amy and Tiff showed us a magical combination with a well worked ball hitting the post!

Then the display from the 3 witches - Jodie, Chelsea and Amy missed out on a goal as Jodie launched the ball to Chelsea, who then sent it over the back line only for Amy to be beaten to the ball by the Wizards keeper.

Little Witch Amy this time paired up with Witch Chloe to produce a winning potion, Chloe on the right wing singled out Amy with her fab throw, Amy outwitted the Batley Wizards to hit the ball hard into the top corner of the net.

The defending witches had to fight hard today against the barrage of oncoming wizards but they did not go down easily, their tough reputation still intact!

Scary Witch Jodie had her wish come true, now we could all go home!!!!!!!!

Crossley were the ones to make the long journey out to us today for a league match, the two teams met last week in the 1st round of the West Riding Cup.

The game pretty much emulated that of the previous week but Hemwsorth saw the return of Chazzie (Captain) after being injured. Katie, George and Chaz all got their names on this seasons score sheet today and dominated the game as far as goals go , with Chazzie opening the scoring early on with her trade mark "curling corner". Katie had a good game, scoring 2 consecutive goals before the half time whistle.

The second half saw Chazzie take 2 magical free kicks from outside the box,(one hitting the post for George to nudge in), and a penalty to give the home team a 6-0 win.
Hard luck to George having an off side decision go against her after what would have been a corker of a goal, and to Becky who's fab header narrowly missed the net.

Another excellent team effort again from Becky, Jodie, Livvy, Chloe, Tiff, Leah, Amy, George, Chels, Nic, Chaz and Katie.

Cup Match- Crossley Juniors 1 HMW 4

What a journey! Crossley's pitch is in the middle of nowhere, even the sat navs have trouble finding this place!

After a traumatic, sunny afternoons drive and help from the mountain rescue team (well Mark and Glen) the game got underway. The girls were still full of excitement after their adventure and played with great enthusiasm.

Amy had a brilliant game scoring a hat trick and twin Becky stepped up to produce a great headed goal from a well delivered corner from Livvy.
George , Livvy, Chels, Chloe and Tiff all had several skillful shots foiled by the keeper, or the ball just sneaking past the post.

Jodie was phenomenal today both in defence and being unlucky with 2 fab free kicks from the half way line being saved well.
Crossley only managed to beat Nic with one goal which came from a well taken penalty, all other attempts were expertly saved.

Hemsworth played with no subs today, having girls still nursing injuries and some on holiday, but despite this they still put up a top performance and varied their game.

The second half, up hill, was more difficult with tired legs but the girls hung on in there and all contributed brilliantly, making it difficult for Sid to choose his player of the match.

An impressive performance from the girls today resulting in a comfortable win.
Amy was on fire today bagging 4 goals after her initial blip as she missed 2 shots at the goal in the opening minutes, (her mum threatened to take her to spec savers)!!!!!

The first goal was set up by Becky as she sent a through ball for Amy to cleverly chip over the keeper.
Tiff set up the 2nd goal as she aimed at the net hitting a defender, the ball looped over the keeper towards the net, another defender tried to head it out but helped the ball find the net.

There was non stop action and many a great shot being saved or just missing the net throughout the game; George had a tremendous shot saved by the keeper at full stretch. Chaz too had a curling corner just clipping the top post and had the same luck with a free kick.

Mel brought the ball out from defence with perfect timing, to push it towards Amy for her to squeeze the ball past the keeper to the bottom corner for the 3rd goal.

Amy opened the scoring in the second half to give her a hat trick, quickly followed by Chloe getting her head on the end of a super corner from Chaz.
Fiery Amy then bagged her fourth before Chelsea slammed one in from an excellent ball provided by Natalie to finish the succession of goals.

Every player gave 100% and reaped the rewards, the defence a little frustrated at times, had little to do today so took turns to play up the field a bit more and show off their talents.

St Josephs 1 Hemsworth 2

The continuous heavy rain could not dampen the spirits of the team today and their performance could be described as anything but "wet" as all the girls gave everything they had in the game.

St Joseph's were awarded an early penalty which put them in the lead for about 20 minutes as Hemsworth patiently worked the ball and took the game to St. Josephs.

Chloe sped down the wing resisting the tough defenders to cross a beauty of a ball, which was well kept in by Liv, who sent it back into the goal area for 4 eagerly awaiting attackers; and after a brief pinball session between St. Joseph's defence and Hemsworths attack (George, Leah, Amy and Tiff), Leah came out tops with her first goal of the season.

Hemsworth's defence of Jodie, Mel, Linz and Becky was absolutely solid, dealing with every challange confidently. Nic had a fab game in goals dominating her box well.

At half time it was neck and neck, but Hemsworth were determined to press forward despite the tough conditions. Chelsea scored very early on in the second half with a very clever lob from Liv allowing Chelsea to go one on one with the keeper.

Hemsworth had the majority of the ball and plenty of chances, Tiff had a good active game in mid and missed out with a header just going over the the bar. Jodie just missing from a free kick as their keeper just managed to keep the ball out of the corner of the net. Chloe was unlucky when, after a determined run, her angled shot aimed at the top corner, just missed its target.

It was a cold and windy day, and Hemsworth with only 12 fit players took the game to Rothwell!
Georgina was acting as captain today and did a superb job, dominating the central area. The first half was an evenly played match with Hemsworth sticking to their planned tac tics, however a shot from Chloe was patted out by the goalie, and well positioned Amy, calmly hit the ball passed the keeper and into the net.

Some good thinking football was demonstrated today with Becky doing a lovely job of clearing the ball right off the line as Nic got drawn out to deal with a corner. Amy, Katie and Leah did a nice 1 touch sequence which nearly paid off, and Nic made some fantastic saves.
We went into half time with a 1-0 lead and feeling very confident.

Rothwell came back fighting in the second half and challenged our defence and tired legs, this resulted in three goals one after the other leaving the home team feeling disappointed.
Although the girls were dis-heartened with the loss it is a huge improvement from last season when Rothwell beat us 7-0 and 8-1, the manager himself said todays match was a "Fantastic team performance".

Player of the match was Georgina Akeroyd with Leah Pearson putting in a strong performance.

Hemsworth entered the new 2010 season with a strong squad of 18 registered players.

The first game of the season looked promising with a 1 all draw against Bradford today, but in all fairness we dominated the game and had chances of half a dozen goals.
Hemsworth won 2 corners in the opening minutes, with the ball predominantly in their opponents half. Bradford's good keeper was broken down by Chelsea scoring the first goal of the season which was set up from a lovely cross by Amy, allowing Chelsea to left foot it into the top of the net. Jodie was unlucky to just miss the target from a free kick 25 yds out.

Hemsworth's defence and midfield worked well together in the first half, to present a strong front keeping their opponents well and truly out in the cold.
The score at the half time whistle was 1-0 to HMW.

The second half saw Hemsworth continue to pressure Bradford's keeper with 3 balls hitting the post from Amy, Chloe and Chazzie. Bradford evened the score with a long shot which Nic got her hands to but unfortunately couldn't keep hold of.
Katie and Tiff worked the ball well out on the wings providing some good crosses into the box, which could have been converted into easy goals!

Presentation Evening - Celebration of the 2009/10 Season

The girls presentation finally arrived (Friday 9th July), every year more and more players, parents, brothers, sisters and relatives make the trip to this annual event. Over the past few weeks it became obvious that the clubhouse would not hold all the people attending the U15's presentation so the Marquee was prepared for duty.

The evening began with Sid's memories of his, currently, 8 years association with the Club and the changes that have taken place over that time, bringing it upto date when after a difficult start to the season the girls came good with their recent win in the West Riding Girls Shield Final.
Soon it was time for his annual chat with each of the girls as he began to hand out their much deserved individual trophies.

Becky Fretwell picked up the Manager's Player Of The Year Trophy.
Georgina Akeroyd was nominated the Players Player Trophy.
Melissa Williams picked up the Most Improved Player's Trophy.
Linzi Healy was awarded The Most Consistent Player's Trophy

Starting in the early evening the girls celebrated their season together, Long standing players, newbies and the very new Natalie, all taking the opportunity to enjoy themselves. When it finally got dark enough the girls were given another surprise. Selected photos from the very early years of the team (2003-04) until last week had been made into a slideshow for them to watch.

What an amazing day out, Rambo has nothing on us HMW U15's girls and parents!
The troops battled well for 2 1/2 hours in Amazon Jungle temperatures, and I am sure they all agree that the scratches, bruises, aches and pains were all worth it as we had a brilliant day.
Team Red were the winners........ Dave, Donna, Chaz, Fiona, Nik, Sophie, Christine, Linzi.

Tingley Gala- 12th June 2010

Hemsworth entered 2 teams in the Tingley gala and both were beaten on the day by Batley. Grr!
Hemsworth (B) team held Batley to a deadlock in the semi finals, just being snuffed out with a penalty shoot out. It was the same scenario for Hemsworth (A) team in the final.

Runners up with their trophies

Hemsworth (A) stormed through into the finals unbeaten, with super goals from Amy, George, Chels and Chazzie. Mel and Katie both contributed to the goals providing accurate balls for the strikers. Becki and Nat in their debut gala games were brilliant and worked really hard for the team- well done!
Well done to all the stand in goalies especially Chazzie for bravely stepping in for the 2 penalty shoot outs- awesome!
Hemsworth (A) won the semi final against St Joseph's on penalties then lost out to Batley in the final on penalties.
Great penalties today from Katie, Amy, and Chels.

Hemsworth (B) also went through to the quarter finals unbeaten with goals from Chloe.
As always Linzi, Becky and Nik, provided a united front and played rock solid at the back of the field, managing not to concede a goal in the preliminary rounds.
Livvy, Chloe, Sophie and Tiff gave 110%, working really hard in pressurising the opponents and the goal.

The quarter and semi finals were decided by exciting penalty shoot outs, with great penalties coming from Tiff, Chloe, Nik and Becky - really unlucky on the day girls!

Butlins Football Festival 2010

Another great weekend at the Butlins football festival in Skegness for the U15 girls, where they played teams from the North East and the Midlands over 2 days. The girls played some really good football and were only beaten in one game by the team which went on to win the U15's title. The individual awards were presented by Leeds Utd and England player Sue Smith, and ex Arsenal legend Ray Parlour The evenings were as entertaining as the games themselves as the U15 girls and the U10 boys joined forces to hit "Skeg Vegas" in fancy dress (about 50 of us). To say that HMW created an impact is an understatement as people stopped to take photos. U15's team and parents in disguise Lou and Andy create HAVOC in Butlins!! Scooby Doo is escorted off the premises!

WRGFL Shield Final - HMW 7 Altofts 1

Hemsworth's U15 Girls wanted this title today and were definitely up for it, Sid detected a few nerves in the dressing room, at the pre-match talk.

Alfofts won the toss and opted to play with the wind!
A clever decision by the away team as they opened the score with a goal from a corner.
Hemsworth did take a bit of settling but when they did, then the action really started as they started to pressure the Altofts goals. The home team were up against the strong wind and were unfortunate with good balls from Chloe, Amy, Tiff, and Chels missing their target as the wind carried the ball away from the net.
Chazzie took 2 consecutive corners, with the second one coming up trumps as Chloe headed the ball into the net for Hemsworth's first goal to level the score.
Altofts came straight back at the Hemsworth's defence leaving Becky to superbly tackle a striker in the box and Linzi to kick the ball out off the line at the near post.
Two minutes just before the half time whistle, Chels took the Hemsworth side into the lead with a super top corner strike from just outside the box.

In the second half Hemsworth had the advantage of playing with the wind behind them and they certainly used this to claim victory over the Altofts team.
A display of magical goals flowed from Chazzie, George, Chloe and Amy(2) to bombard the Altofts keeper, and secure the Shield Title.

The formidable defence of Mel, Linzi, Becky and Chazzie, along with Nic's Goal keeping skills, confidently snubbed out all Altofts attempts in the second Half.

All the team played with sheer guts, drive and determination and responded positively and maturely to the constructive advice given, and thoroughly deserved to earn the title of "Girls U15's WRGFL Shield Winners 2009/2010"

Hemsworth played their last league match of this season and secured their place in the 1st Division, easily beating the Pontefract team.

Tiff scored in a record time of 27 seconds of play to put the home team in front.
Hemsworth dominated the game with lots of good play, Chelsea and George put in some good crosses, Amy had a couple of good shots with one hitting the post the other just going over. Chloe and Tiff intercepted the ball well and displayed a good series of one touch football. Chazzie stepped up to take 2 good free kicks, but the keeper secured them well.
The second goal came from good team work as Chazzie placed the corner ball for Tiff to head, the ball came back off the post and Becky produced a controlled volley giving the keeper no chance.
St Joseph's broke away, shooting a hard low ball for Nic to stop dead on the near post, but then it just sneaked in the net!

The second half saw Hemsworth grow and grow in confidence and with 2 more goals coming from a Chazzie and Chloe combination, Hemsworth had the 3 points in the bag. Chazzie delivered both the corner balls into the goal area with Chloe getting on the end of them, the first being a brilliant header.

A big thank you to Churwell for agreeing to play a friendly match as the Hemsworth girls are eager to keep training in preparation for the imminent Shield final.

The home team were quick off the mark today with this season's new comers Livvy and Meg scoring within minutes of each other.
The Hemsworth team seemed "tuned in" and played a good passing game which reaped rewards in terms of goals.

Chazzie scored 2 lovely goals, as did Katie.
Amy rested the first half but came on for a stretch in the second half and scored also.

Thrilled Leah, responded to a dropped ball by the keeper for her first goal, but produced a beauty chip for her second.

Churwell were missing a couple of key players today but played with exemplary attitude and sporting spirit.
Both teams enjoyed themselves and of course, the sunny weather was an added bonus.

Today's game has to be a good measure of the improvement made over the season, as the last time these two teams met was back in September when Hemsworth were going through a transitional period with new players, losing 1-5 to the stronger team.

Today this was certainly not the case as both teams were pretty even in the first half, both having their chances with corners, free kicks and shots at goal, but a deadlock saw the result at 0-0 at half time.

Wigton stole the game in the second half with 2 goals, one which Hemsworth's keeper managed to get her fingers to but tipped into the net, and the other one a lucky goal when communication broke down in the goal mouth.

Injuries plagued Hemsworth also in the second half, but a massive well done for a gutsy team performance, the score does not reflect the effort put in!

A good win for the Hemsworth girls today with all the team giving 100% effort.
Hemsworth scored within the opening minutes as Livvy's shot resulted in a Farsley defender blocking it with her hand, but the ref signaled for the play to go on! Tiff was first to respond to the loose ball and took the opportunity to open up the score!

Farsley played with the wind the first half and used it to their advantage as they had 3 consecutive corners for the Hemsworth defence to snuff out of the goal area, unfortunately the wind helped to pin the ball in the Hemsworth half, causing a threat for a good 10 minutes, until a high lob just went over Nicheala's head to level the score.

Hemsworth went for it from the kick off and the display of one touch football nearly paid off from Amy, Chels and George, as George had her shot kicked out by the Farsley goal keeper. George was in fine form today as she tried to threaten the keeper again with another good shot at goal.
Chazzie provided a long ball for Amy to run onto and blast into the far corner of the net, leaving the keeper no chance. Farsley came back with a good volley on the edge of the box from a mis-kicked ball across the goal mouth, to level the score at the half time whistle.

The second half started with Hemsworth now working with the wind, and Chazzie wasted no time in using her power to lob the ball from the half way line, over the keepers head for a brilliant goal. Hemsworth were a little too eager at times and both Tiff and Amy missed out on chances.

Chazzie and Chloe played good tactical football out on the wing, with Chloe showing perfect timing in feeding Chazzie on the edge of the box with an excellent ball, for her to left foot past the keeper to take a 2- 4 lead.
The match was looking to be over but a very long injury time gave Farsley the opportunity to pull a goal back, leaving the score at 3-4 at the final whistle.

Sid commented on the rock solid performance of George, Nicheala, Chelsea, Becky and Linz, and named Chazzie as his player of the match.

Shield Semi Final - HMW U15's 1 ILKLEY 0

Despite the non stop rain today's West Riding League Shield Semi Final provided a very entertaining game to watch, with both teams displaying exemplary attitude and determination to the credit of their clubs.
Hemsworth had a good chance straight from the kick off with a good passing combination which just missed finishing up in the net. This set the bench mark for the home team as they continued to dominate throughout the match.
Ilkley were tough and kept Hemsworth on their toes challenging every ball.
The front line of Chloe, Amy and Chels all made chances and were unlucky not to have a couple of goals each!

The midfield team of Tiff, Livvy, George and Chazzie absolutely dominated their area today, and all four stepped up and pressurised the goalkeeper.
Tiff scooped up a loose ball from the halfway line and ran it into the box for Amy to put past the keeper for what turned out to be the only goal of the match.
Becky, Mel and Lindz were hot on the tails of the Ilkley strikers not really letting them get too many chances. Occasionally the fast paced Ilkley strikers broke free, but Hemsworth's formidable three ran them down and cleared their lines to good effect!

Nic in goals did what she had to do when challenged, but today she was more of a spectator! Katie and Rianna came on as substitutes and quickly fell into position, both players responding well to the strong opposition.

Sid praised all the players and found it impossible to choose any particular girl as player of the match as everyone played consistently, top notch football today.

The girls played brilliantly as a team, displaying a tactical and varied game and were extremely unlucky not to have had a more significant win.

Hemsworth will now play in the West Riding Shield Final hosted at the Hemsworth Miners Welfare ground, along with the West Riding League Cup Final- Saturday 8th May

HMW 0 - Lepton Highlanders 3

Well all I can say is that it was like watching 2 teams today, the first half- Man Utd (ok slight exaggeration!!) and the second half Donny Rovers (sorry Dave).
Amy up front had some good opportunities and broke through the defence on several occasions to keep them on their toes, but was foiled by the good keeper every time.

The two wingers used their speed and stamina well today and it nearly paid off! Chloe was unlucky not to score having a few shots at the goal, and with a super header looking on target but the defender cleared it from what appeared to be over the back line!
The defenders did a solid job, with midfield doing a sterling job of feeding the ball out.
Lepton scored a good goal just before half time.
Sir Alex was pleased with all the players performance in the first half and felt the game was there for the taking.

The second half- well!! Man Utd went home and Donny Rovers replaced them.
Lepton secured a second goal as Nik came out to meet the ball and collided with a couple of players leaving the net wide open for an easy goal.
The positioning of the players was all over the place and the will to win had gone.
A penalty awarded against the home team, was the final nail in the coffin!

Come back Man U PLEASE, Sir Alex is not pleased with a Rovers performance!!

The teams were fairly evenly matched, and a good proportion of the first half saw end to end play with both teams having chances at the net.

Hemsworth put in a decent performance today in a much needed practice match. Adverse weather has seen many of our league matches over the past 3 months postponed.

Hemsworth were the first to break the deadlock with a good ball from Chazzie finding Amy outside the box, who then went on to beat the advancing keeper for Hemsworth's first goal.
Wigton retaliated with a ball just slipping by Nic in the nets.

Hemsworth's second goal came from a corner ball delivered right into the goal area from Chazzie, for an eagerly waiting Tiff to run onto and knock past the keeper.

The play continued end to end until Wigton equalised with a lovely goal from the edge of the box, leading into the half time whistle a score of 2 all.

The second half was still pretty even but then Wigton took advantage of the gaps that Hemsworth left wide open, only to be foiled by Nic's excellent keeping skills.
2 quick goals in the moments when Hemsworth lapsed in concentration resulted in a 2-4 loss for the home team.

George, Leah and Tiff worked like trogens in mid, as did Becky, Linz and Mel having to step up a gear to snuff out the skilful Wigton forwards. Chloe used her strength and speed well on the wing and was unlucky not to have scored.
A good effort from all the players and a sterling job of refeering from Wathy!!

Rothwell 7 HMW U15's 0

This was the first match since November, so it was a bit of a shock to the system for both the players and the supporters!!

The girls put the effort in and considering the lack of match play, they held off the strong Rothwell side for most of the first half, but then Rothwell went on to score 4 consecutive goals (a couple of lucky ones).

Hemsworth's goalie had her work cut out today making some brilliant saves, time after time, the score line could quite easily have been in double figures.

The second half mirrored the first half pretty much with Rothwell on top of the game. The fitness levels of the away team started to show as they proved no real threat to the home team, with very little chances at the net.
In the final 10 minutes of the match some of the girls had a second wind which picked up the pace of the game, but unfortunately it was too late to have any effect.
Hemsworth conceded 3 goals in the second half to give a final score of 7-0.

Becky and Linz were tremendous at the back, breaking the momentum of key players.

U15's Cup Match- Churwell Lions 4 HMW 2

The result does not reflect how well the Hemsworth team played this weekend. They did dominate a good percentage of the game and were unlucky with the result.

From the whistle the Hemsworth team got stuck in, dominating the majority of the first half play, even though Churwell scored twice leaving Hemsworth trailing behind 2-0.
Chloe had her best game of the season and kept popping shots at the goal, hitting the cross bar, until she finally hit a brilliant angled shot into the top corner of the net.

A determined Chazzie virtually walked the ball into the net for Hemsworth's equaliser, just before half time.

The girls played much better as a team and were all optimistic that the game was there for the taking, but Churwell's excellent stand in keeper saved the day as George, Tiff, Chels and Amy all tried to get one past her- but with no success!

What should have been a penalty as a Churwell player made an attempt to catch the ball inside the box was discounted by the referee. Churwell then broke away to score, and then again with a silly goal in the last minute through a blip in the Hemsworth defence.

The score did not reflect the excellent team performance and the positives of the result is that the team now go into the Sheild, where in the past have been very successful, so fingers crossed and keep working and listening hard!!!

First of all what a courageous effort by the Hemsworth goalkeeper for playing the majority of the match with a severe hand injury!!

This was never going to an easy match with the home squad still nursing a lot of injuries, but the score and the performance was better than 2 weeks ago when Otley easily won the match by 5 clear goals.

The away team started off quickly with 2 quick shots which proved to be no real threat to Nik. Rhea played great at the back and responded well to a crossed ball, heading it out of the goal area.
Otley were the first to score with a good top corner goal but the home team retaliated 2 fold.
Hemsworth's first goal was provided by a beautiful lob from Mel over the midfield for Tiff to put it past the Otley goalie, who had run out to challenge her.

Livvy nearly got her name on the score sheet as she hit the cross bar from a corner ball which had come out of the goal mouth.

Katie was exceptional today having an hand in the 2 other Hemsworth goals. She, according to Mean Mark ran at 100 miles an hour down the wing (he was still in race night mode from last night) to put in 2 fab crosses for both Tiff and Chels to simply tap into the net.

Poor Nik got injured from a goal mouth scramble as she went down on the floor to try and save the ball. Unsuspecting to the rest of us she bravely carried on but was in pain and Otley were able to push ahead with 3 more easy goals.
Becky was a little Rottweiler today proving to be a real nuisance to the opposition!

Never mind girls you all played some good football and conducted yourselves in an exemplary manner throughout the match, as we all know foul language on the pitch is degrading, unsporting and unacceptable!!!

Pontefract and Hemsworth have had many battles on the field and today was no exception. The nail biting match provided good entertainment, after 10 minutes of play Hemsworth were losing 1 -0 following a defensive lapse. The play went from end to end but at the 20 minutes point a cross found a lone St Josephs player and the lead was extended to 2 -0.

Unfortunately loosing 2 injured players in a short period of time, had left Hemsworth unbalanced and it took a while to get the team playing again but at the end of the first half Hemsworth were still in the game despite the 2 goals against them.

Following the restart Hemsworth began to get on top of the opposition allowing Lyndsey to charge forward, bursting through St Joseph’s defensive line to strike a shot across the keeper, and into the bottom corner of the net. Shortly afterwards a quick throw from George found Lyndsey on the edge of the box, who chipped it goalwards where one of the St Joseph’s defenders misheaded the ball and could only watch as it dropped into the back of the net.

Hemsworth’s midfield domination started to pay dividends when Chazzie collected the ball outside the box before rounding a defender and smashing the ball home for a well deserved lead. Hemsworth were now buzzing having scored 3 consecutive goals and more and more pressure was exerted on the St Joseph's goal. Chloe met a corner only to see her header whistle over the crossbar, and with only 10 Minutes to go Tiff hit the ball and both teams could only watch as the keeper dived but couldn’t reach it and the ball passed her and rolled into the bottom corner of the net.

St Josephs started to chase the game and a frantic goalmouth scramble resulted in them scoring their 3rd to make for a tense final few minutes.

Both teams looked tired after their efforts throughout the game and were relieved when the final whistle went.

This was the first time today that the Hemsworth side looked like the old team, newcomers Livvy and Mel were formidable today, Tiff and Becky had a brilliant game. Charlotte and Lindz played excellent strategic football in fact all the girls played good football and it paid off- a massive well done.

A better performance today after a very slow start with everyone trying to adapt to the new formation. Improvement can be seen each week and with more communication we will get there. Hemsworth did create a fair amount of chances but some lack of enthusiasm let the chances slip by in the first half.

Becky was extremely unlucky not to have scored today, with a lovely lob over the keepers head, cleared off the line. Chloe and Chels impressed with a heading combination just missing the goals.

With the second half being downhill, Hemsworth were optimistic but the only goal came from Chloe launching the ball to Chelsea waiting on the half way line, who then beat the defender and advancing keeper for a cracker of a goal.

George, Leah and Tiff run the mid field and Linz, Charlotte, Becky and Mel were very solid at the back. Nic confidently saved the shots at the goal not letting the earlier penalty ruffle her feathers.

Sid named Charlotte Andrews Player of the match, with newcomers Rhianna and Livvy, and Chelsea impresssing.

Howden Clough 2 HMW U15's 2

Howden Clough dominated the first half and piled on the pressure from the kick off, with the ball never coming out of our half for at least the first 10 minutes.
The Hemsworth midfield was not at its best today causing hard work for the defenders.

Howden Clough took the lead with an unlucky goal as Nicheala dived for the ball but failed to keep hold of it, allowing the striker to scoop the ball up into the back of the net.

Sid talked to the girls at half time pointing out the teams downfall but the second half started out pretty much the same as the first half, with Howden looking the better team and bagging another scrappy goal.

Sid made some strategic moves in the last 15 minutes or so of the game, which opened up the play for the away team and then the goals followed. George used the wind and lobbed the ball high above the keepers head for a great goal. Chazzie came up trumps with her famous corner to even the score in the final 7 minutes.

A better performance than 2 weeks ago when we previously met division 1 league champions Batley Heat.

The score does not reflect the fantastic performance of Nicheala in goals, she was deservedly managers player of the match. Nic made some courageous, diving saves, and was very unlucky that the wind helped a couple of well stopped goals trickle over the line!

Hemsworth did play better but rarely looked in danger of scoring any goals today.

If its any consolation, the 2 toughest matches are out of the way now girls!!

HMW U15's 2 Farsley 2

A much improved performance today from the all the girls in a fairly even match against Farsley. The girls listened well to instructions and kept their positions well throughout the first half, allowing them to have a good percentage of the ball.

The Hemsworth team started off really positively with Chloe, Chelsea and Tiff winning the ball and taking shots at the goal within the opening minutes.
Farsley had their chance to open the scoring with a penalty which Nic confidently saved.
The home team missed out on a couple of opportunities when Amy provided a good corner ball and Chels crossed the ball across the goal, but no one responded quick enough!
Linz, Chaz, Rhea and Becky provided a united front and dealt with most of the Farsley attacks, with Nic dominating the goal area again today.

Farsley scored from a lovely corner and Hemsworth pressured from the kick off with Amy taking a long shot, but the Farsley goalie caught it well.
A Farsley handball in the box gave Chazzie a penalty, levelling the score to 1 all.
Hemsworth's second goal came from a brilliant ball from Linz to Amy, who shook off the defenders and struck the ball low and hard into the bottom corner of the net.

The second half started off well with plenty more shots just missing out on goal from Mel, Chaz, Amy and Katie.

Farsley scored in the last 5 minutes with a contreversal goal as the lines man raised his flag for off side, but the ref over ruled the decision.
A good match with Some fabulous hard work from George and Leah in midfield.
Newcomers Sophie, Mel, Rhea and Rhianna showed more confidence and put a lot of effort in.

The Junior Section launched over 750 balloons this week in a fundraiser to raise monies for each of the teams in the Section. The balloons were released at 1:00 p.m. and were last seen heading south at speed...
As usual once the found balloons start to come in the results will be posted on the website and the winner will be the balloon which is found to have travelled the furthest by the closing date. (27th September 2009).

U15's- HMW 1 Wigton Moor 5

The new season kicked off with a loss for the U15's against Wigton Moor. The girls had played brilliantly 2 days before winning a friendly 5-2 against a team a year above their age group. This match had taken its toll on the girls leaving them with stiffness, aches and pains due to the summer rest, lack of training and excercise!!

The new larger squad of 19 means that attendance at training is even more important than ever, as we have a lot of work to do this season, reforming the team and slotting in the new players.

Wigton were on the ball first the majority of the time leaving the Hemsworth girls out in the cold.
Wigton scored 2 early goals, Hemsworth did have their chances in the first half with Sophie, Amy and Chelsea missing out on opportunities at the goal. Another missed chance was when Amy hit the crossbar following a good cross from Chels but no one followed it through as it came back into play.

The only goal of the day from the Hemsworth team was a good tactical goal from a short corner -Chazzie to Linz and back again to Chazzie who crossed it to Amy waiting on the edge of the box. Amy confidently blasted the ball into the back of the net.
In the second half Leah, Chazzie and Chloe took good shots at the goal, just missing the net!

The girls enjoyed a friendly match to ease them back after a long rest.
The match took place on the main pitch outside the club house, so the spectators could enjoy a cold drink to lubricate the vocal cords! And as always the girls played in good spirit. Some fab play from all the girls with goals from Carmen and Briony for the U16's and Amy, Leah and Chloe for the U15's.

Good luck to both teams in the new season!

Handsworth Girls Summer Tournament

The U15's and the U16's entered teams in The Handsworth tournament which was heavily represented by the local Sheffield Wednesday club.
Having no U15's league both HMW teams played in the U16's age group but in separate leagues.

The U16's started slow but soon gained momentum allowing Briony and Carmen to claim good goals. The girls drew quite a few games and were unlucky with some of the referee's decisions and unfortunately did not make the semi finals. Both the Sheff Wed teams dominated the league from early on in the day.

The U15's played some brilliant football with goals coming from Chazzie(3) Tiff and Amy. The girls never lost a match or conceded a goal in all the qualifying rounds. Nichaela had a magnificent day in goals.
The highlight of the day was winning the Sheff Wed team 1-0 with a brilliant goal from Chazzie. Its not until a team loses that you see their true colours (and they were not pretty colours)!!

The semi final was played against yet another Sheffield Wednesday team, and the Hemsworth team did not disgrace themselves as they took the game to extra time and the dreaded penalty shoot out. The older more experienced girls came through as winners on this day.

The physical play took its toll on some of the players but its all experience and preparation for the new season. That's the last of the tournaments for this summer, so its rest time- mentally and physically- as we all look forward to the new season.

Sid and Nigel would like to personally thank all players and parents for their support and are looking forward to the new 2009 season.
The U16's will move up a division due to this years victory as league winners and the U15's have some new players for Sid to position in our squad.

HMW at Bolton Wood's Tournament

Hemsworth Miners were successfully represented by 3 teams in the Bolton Woods Tournament, 1 U15's team and 2 U14's teams.
2 teams finished as runners up in the finals and 1 as semi finalists.

U15's
The girls had mixed blessings in the qualifying rounds with some wins and some losses. All the girls played well together and displayed some excellent skills. Chelsea in goals was her usual vocal self, oozing confidence and making some great saves throughout the day. Having qualified for the semi's the team were up against Appleby & Frodingham reds, the score ended at 1-1 so the dreaded penalties were to be the decider of who went into the finals. The excellent keeping skills was evident as the score remained at 1-1 after the first round of penalties!
Hemsworth kept their nerve as Carmen stepped onto the penalty spot to strike what was to be the winning shot. A nervous Chelsea stepped onto her line to make a 2 footed diving save, denying A&F a place in the final with their white team.
Hemsworth finished respectable runners up against A&F whites in the final.

U14's-B (Sid's)
The team opened the tournament with a confident 3-0 win against Shipley, with goals from Amy, Chazzie and Kelly. Unlucky near misses from Leah, Georgi, Nicky and Sophie. The girls demonstrated some excellent passing football and had at least 90% possession of the ball. The opposing goal came under threat at least every minute and the score line could have easily have been in double figures.
The team were denied a place in the finals having lost out to Bolton Woods in the semis, who went on to win the tournament.

U14's-A (Dave's)
The girls gave 100% effort today and reaped the rewards with a succession of goals from Becky(1) who enjoyed playing more up front, Ebony(2) and Chloe(3) who had a fab game today. Nikheala had her best tournament yet in the goals taking some hard shots to her body, and dominating her area. She is showing what a competent goalie she is becoming. Lindz and Chels played solid and provided some good passes, and Tiff stood up to the tough opposition of the bigger girls with spirit and determination.
The girls were beaten 1-3 in the final against the bigger Bolton Woods girl's.

A fabulous well attended night and as usual the stars themselves(the girls) looked stunning!! Its becoming a bit of a BAFTA event with the girls dressing to kill and eager to show that all girl footballers are certainly not tomboys!! With each year the girls develop into lovely young women and Sid commented about the maturity of the team on the field, this year in particular. It is this self control and maturity that he believes gained them the prestigious "David Beckham Fair Play Award" in May this year.

With the pies in the oven, Sid got the nod from his better half to proceed with the presentation's. Sid firstly said his thank yous to the parents and his second in command (who now has the T shirt). A special mention to Adam Wathem for all his hard work and support to the club!
One by one each of Sid's Babies collected their trophy and a few kind words!! Because of the lengthy speeches I cannot possible write all the details so I have summed each girl up as follows:-

Hemsworth Miners Welfare Junior Football Club is a non-profit organisation that currently runs teams for both Boys and Girls from 6 years of age.

We rely on Member subscriptions, Fund raising and Sponsors to enable the club to continue supporting young people in football and grow by attacting more players and raising the profile of the club in the local area.

We need funds to pay for Playing kit, Rain proof tops, Equipment such as Footballs, Junior Goals, Training Equipment. We also need funding for the many courses that our Managers and Coaches go on such as Child Protection, First Aid and coaching courses.

We do our best to hold as many events as possible in order to raise some much needed funds and some of our teams have a sponsor in some form or other. Whether it be generous parents that fund for a new kit, or a Company that buys kit in order to both help the club prosper and advertise their name on our kit.

Bramley Sunnyside Tournament

Hemsworth U14's entered 2 teams into what must be the most complicated tournament to date.
On disecting the mind boggling rules the teams were ready for the kick off. Unfortunately not the same could be said about the referees because many interpretations of the rules were evident from the first 4 games that we watched. One ref was barely out of nappies (15) and ignored the fact that players were entering the goal area, a rule specifically stated in the programme.
Another team played a whole match with the goalie kicking the ball out, again another rule a referee ignored.
Some refs allowed a second chance if a rule was broken and some give a penalty! Russian roulette comes to mind, and FRUSTRATING is an understatement!!
In fact our entertainment of the day was eavesdropping in on conversations as many a manager passed our camp enroute to the officials tent to complain!

Oh the football I nearly forgot! Hemsworth A team (Dave's) despite a brave attempt and 1 Super penalty from Becky, failed to qualify into the semi's.

Hemsworth B team (Sid's) qualified for the semis, meeting with a very poor sporting Sheffield team!
Hemsworth came through the match- bones and reputation unscathed- and won the nail biting penalty shoot out, with the winning penalties coming from Amy and Chaz.
Kelly showed she had a heart of a lion and saved some fantastic balls.

The 6 girls then went on to to play Batley in the final (deja vou) but were outplayed and finished admirable runners up.

Chris “Tig” Askham Memorial

A Memorial tournament for Chris 'Tig' Askham was held last weekend (16/6/09), it consisted of a 4 team tournament, a Women’s Game and an Over 35s Game.

The day started with the Women’s game between Ashton’s WAG’s and the Hemsworth Miners Welfare Ladies. All the Spectators were entertained with some very good football and in true WAG style, a display of colourful fashion accessories (tu tu’s) and of course plenty of back chat and rule breaking!!

The Men’s Tournament was well represented by our local teams, and was won by HMW.
The over 35's teams consisted of ex players, refs, coaches and managers of which all managed to come through without injuries!!!

The fundraising went on until very late with live music and a few bevvies!

The day was extremely well supported by the local community, and a massive thankyou goes out to everyone who attended and contributed to this event.

Dodworth Gala

Hemsworth u14's entered 2 teams into the Dodworth Gala, and both finished a respectable 3rd position.
Dodworth were good hosts at the well organised event making it a pleasurable tournament.

Team A (Dave's)started off slowly but gelled together and improved with each match. Nicheala's confidence grew throughout the tournament and made some awesome saves in the final match, Chelsea scored 2 excellent goals, 1 of which was a follow up from Chloe's shot which rebounded off the post. Newcomer Leah showed true grit and determination, Becky and Tiff played some solid football and adapted to different positions, Chloe and Ebony used their speed well throughout the games and Linz dominated the defence to allow the Hemsworth team to finish in 3rd position.

Team B (Sid's)started off strong winning their 1st 2 games with goals from Amy and Nicky. All the games were hard fought against some very strong opposition but Hemsworth managed to create a good team spirit and used their strength in passing to win the early games.

Kelly produced some excellent dives and saved some really powerful strikes. Chazzie and George communicated well at the back and created some good opportunities and shots on goal. Katie, Amy and Nicky continued to use their strengths but despite this hard work, a draw and a loss in the following matches squeezed the Hemsworth team out of the semis. All the team played and worked relentlessly throughout each game and newcomer Sophie gave 100%.

U14's Semi Finalists-Tingley Gala

The girls had an enjoyable afternoon at the sunny annual Tingley gala and played some good tactical football.

Hemsworth breezed through the first 2 games winning the first game 2-0 with a super goal from Amy and then Chelsea converted a goal from Georgi's magnificent long throw.

The duo of Georgi and Chelsea repeated the same goal in the second match to give Hemsworth their second win.
The 3rd game Hemsworth lost 1-0 and the 4th game hit deadlock as neither teams scored in an even contest.

In their last match Hemsworth dominated the whole game but time after time were met against a baracade of defence, which meant Hemsworth's fate of reaching the Semi's was to be decided on the final league match of St Joseph's and Churwell. Thankfully the result of a draw, gave Hemsworth the passage into the Semi finals against Batley.

The semi final was hard fought by both teams and went into golden goal which Batley won after a confusing decision by the ref which led to Batley taking a quick corner and scoring the golden goal!
Kelly made some fantastic saves proving to be a real star in the goals.

All the girls played well and a lovely day was had by all.

HMW - Tournament - U15's

The Summer Tournament season got off to a super start with HMWJFC U15 having 2 teams in their tournament. The Babes and the Belles meant business when they both kicked off in the glorious sunshine!

They both won their groups with 2 wins and a draw each to get to the semis. The Belles played Seacroft and it ended in penalties with both teams matching each other in a nail biting finish until Seacroft managed that extra penalty needed. Then it was the Babes turn against Bolton Woods and here we were again with the match ending in penalties! Each team had 3 penalties each and only 1 went in, well done Briony for making it yours, even though we suspect you had tour eyes closed! lol!

Then the final, another excellent match with the Babes creating many chances that just missed, so yes, penalties again, not the best way to decide a final but the only way. A nail biting few minutes with Seacroft winning 2-1.

Well done to all the girls, you were fantastic today and showed how good we are! A special mention goes to Chelsea and Giggs who were outstanding goalkeepers today!

Butlins Festival of Football 2009

The U14's competed in the Butlins Festival of Football this weekend at Skegness and did themselves, their parents, Sid and the club proud with winning the fair play award!

The team will be entered into a draw to have the chance to win a day at the David Beckham Academy in London. Good Luck!!!

The participation awards and the fair play awards were presented by Welsh International and Liverpool legend Ian Rush and Arsenal ladies and Irelands goalkeeper Emma Byrne.

U14's Shield Final -HMW 1 Lepton Highlanders 2

A disappointed Hemsworth team let the title slip today to a team that had never managed to defeat them in their previous meetings this year.

Hemsworth played a good first half with a cracker of a goal from Amy who lobbed it over the keepers head. The girls seemed calm and collected, using the space and standing up to their physical opponents, when poor Tiff came off with a right shiner (somehow the event was missed by the ref) and extremely disappointed when a decision was made not to allow her to play again due to the severity of the injury.

Leah just missed out on a goal when she knocked the ball just past the post as it rebounded out from a corner kick. Chloe, Kel and Amy all had a stab at the goal in the first half. Ebony was the rock in midfield today and is improving with each game.
Lepton managed a scrappy goal during a goalmouth scramble just before the half time whistle giving a score of 1 all.

The second half did not flow as good as it should have, with a lot of decisions going against the home team and the penalty awarded probably put the final nail in the coffin. Nichaela made a fantastic block to the penalty but then Lepton followed the ball up while Hemsworth stood and watched.

Lepton's confidence grew and attacked constantly for the final 10 minutes of the game, Hemsworth did make a quick break with Chelsea lobbing the ball over the top for Kelly to head just over the crossbar, resulting in another injury to the home team, as she collided (in my opinion fouled and obstructed) with the goalie and 2 defenders.

At the end of the day the team that wants it the most generally wins and today that was not Hemsworth!!

But on a positive note the newly promoted team to the 1st division, should be proud of their achievements this year, (Shield runners up and finishing a repectable position in the league) and now can look forward to the fun at the Butlins Festival this month.

U14's Batley Heat 7 HMW 1

It was never going to be easy against the division 1 league winners, but Hemsworth made an impressionable start with a quick goal from George's long throw to Amy, who rounded the defender and beat the advancing keeper for an opening goal.

Not long after Batley equalised with a fabulous long shot which dropped into the net over Nicheala's head.

Hemsworth kept up the pace of the game and in an effort to keep up the momemtum the 2 wingers of Chels and Katie were replaced with Chloe and Ebony. Everyone was working really hard on the pitch, but Batley went into a 2-1 lead with a fumbled goal, where everyman and his dog tried kicking the ball every direction in the goal mouth.

Ebony made her presence felt and was awarded with a free kick just outside the box, Chazzie made a brilliant effort to try and equalise but the ball just curled the wrong side of the post.

In the second half Batley had the upperhand and went on to score a further 5 goals (1 an home goal off an Hemsworth player from a corner kick that went skywards and dropped inside the net).

Chloe had a brave shot which went over the cross bar and Hemsworth had another free kick, but its fair to say a relatively quiet second half for the away team in the terms of shots at the goal. Nicheala had a good attitude and made some confident saves. Despite the widening gap in the score the Hemsworth girls remained in good spirit.

Tonights game against some stiff opposition will not have done any harm, in fact it will have been a good warm up session for the Hemsworth team competing in the Shield Final on Saturday!!

U14's Reach Shield Final - HMW 3 - Altofts 2

Hemsworth U14's made hard work of a match that they should have won comfortably had their shots on goal been a little more accurate. In the opening 10 minutes several chances were hit all around the goals but none went in and the wingers provided the crosses but nothing came from them either. George's long throws gave good opportunities but again sadly nothing was converted.

Charlotte's famous curling corner opened up the scoring in the first half of the match. Both Tiff and Ebony had a good game, showing determination against the bigger opposition. Hemsworth were definetly the stronger team in the first half but with lady luck not on their side today. Altofts made a couple of breaks but failed to trouble the keeper thanks to the brilliant defending of Chaz, Becky and Linz.

The second half saw a different Altofts side who played a more attacking half making the home team panic and play sloppy football. Charlotte again produced another fab goal from a corner to put Hemsworth into a 2-0 lead. Altofts did not sit back, they kept attacking, stringing some good passes together to unnerve the Hemsworth girls. The first of Altofts goals came off a Hemsworth player in a fight for the corner ball in the goalmouth. Shortly afterwards, in the final 10 minutes, another Altofts goal evened the score to 2 all.

At this point it looked as though extra time might be imminent as both sides were fighting for the win, when a lovely throw from Chelsea found a frustrated Kelly on the edge of the box, who lobbed the ball into the roof of the net for a brilliant goal. The excitement did not end there, Altofts were awarded a penalty up the other end which went over the cross bar, minutes later the game came to an end giving Hemsworth a place in the Shield Final, which is to be hosted along with the Cup Final, next Saturday at the Hemsworth Miners Welfare Ground.
